CASL Tournament Kicks off Competitive Schedule

This week sees the GPS FC Bayern National team take part in its first competitive events of the 2015/16 season. Following its inaugural year last season, the top tier of the GPS program looks to reach new heights as teams are set to take part in prestigious and elite events all over the world!

The GPS FC Bayern National Team Program comprises the top players from throughout the GPS franchises. The GPS FC Bayern National teams compete in various events throughout North America and select International events outside of the normal Youth Soccer competitive calendar. Last season’s highlights included trips to the Dallas Cup and the International Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.

Following a tryout period and recent training centers, the GPS National Team North program launches its competitive campaign this month. Preempting changes from US Soccer by a year, GPS will field teams at the calendar age group.  Six teams, boys and girls aged 2002, 2003 and 2004 will travel to the CASL Showcase in North Carolina. The 2005 boys and girls will play in the FSA Turkey Shootout in Connecticut; and for their first taste of National Team play the 2006 boys and girls will participate in the GPS Thanksgiving Invitational.

The program is split to include a GPS 'National Program North' that encompasses Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New York and New Jersey; a 'National Program New Hampshire/Maine’; and a GPS 'National Program South' that includes Florida, North and South Carolina and Georgia.  There will be certain select events throughout the year where the players from North and South will come together as the ‘GPS FC Bayern National Team’ to attend a high profile event.

The program is set to broaden its scope this season, with GPS FC Bayern Teams planned to enter in to the Vegas Showcase in Nevada, the Gothia Cup in Sweden, MIC Cup in Spain and a return to the newly re-branded Super Cup Northern Ireland.

“Seeing our top players from multiple states come together is extremely exciting and we cannot wait to finally see these talented young players have competitive action” said National Team Coordinator Iain Martin. “After preparation with our top coaches we can now see our elite players compete and test themselves at the top level in the country; and later this season the World!  Good luck to all teams competing this month.”
